CAD-3D CONVERTER

This Converter reads objects in the CAD-3D format. It reads ".3D" and ".3D2" files from both CAD-3D versions 1.0 and 2.0.

This Converter adds one entry to the conversion lists:

CAD-3D *.3D;*.3D2

This is an export-only Converter. It cannot create CAD-3D objects.

Geometry
CAD-3D objects only contain triangles. Both CAD-3D 1.0 and 2.0 support named objects, although no hierarchy information is present.

Material attributes
CAD-3D version 1.0 ".3D" objects have only two colors, each with seven shades of that base color. The first color range is set to shades of red, ranging from half bright red to full brightness red. The second color range is set to shades of blue, again ranging from half to full brightness.

CAD-3D version 2.0 ".3D2" objects have polygon colors described with RGB values that have eight steps each, giving a total of 512 total colors. CAD-3D does not support any material attributes beyond color, so all CAD-3D polygons are given a dull material.

Options dialog
This Converter has no options on its dialog.

Background
CAD-3D was originally published by Antic Software for the Atari ST family of computers. Lexicor Software continued to support the CAD-3D format and extended it to a ".3D4" format.
